Where Innovation Meets Tone: The Audile Story
Audile is the brainchild of a collaboration between analogue audio circuit genius Bruce Colledge of Audio Art and electronics manufacturer Michael Schimkat of Avant Technik. Bruce and Michael had worked together over the past 15+ years on a number of industrial instrumentation and consumer electronic product projects.
They had been discussing bringing the TOAD effects pedal from a concept in Bruce’s mind to the real world for several years, before finally diving in and making it happen. In the process, several more models evolved, and there are more on the drawing boards still to come.
Meet the Founders
Meet Bruce
Bruce’s love of audio electronics began in the 1980s at Amalgamated Wireless Australasia (AWA) in the field of HiFi systems and car audio. Moving from that field to musical instrument repairs and design with The Australian Academy of Music. It was there that Bruce met Alan Entwistle (of legendary pickup design fame) when the first Guitar Garage was established in Red Hill, and soon Audio Art Queensland was his full-time concern.
In the 1990s Bruce toured as a keyboardist for various recording artists in the USA. On returning to Brisbane, he worked at Network 7 and for Musiclab, refining his skills and knowledge of large format recording consoles and tape machines. The later part of the 1990’s saw him working as a stage and recording musician once more as well as carrying out work in the UK at Abbey Road studios and Air Studios Lindhurst. There he rubbed shoulders with other designers such as Roger Quested, Rupert Neve, Clive Green (CADAC) and Graeme Langley (Amek). Small signal audio design has been his passion ever since.
For the last decade Bruce has been lecturing and teaching university students in the fields of basic and applied electronics, acoustic design, and the physics of sound. He holds a graduate degree in music technology and a research degree in electronics engineering. He currently holds membership in the Audio Engineering Society of New York, and the Acoustical Society of America.
His passion remains in creating and designing small signal audio devices for musicians. This, and the desire to “take it to the next level”, is the philosophy he retains as design engineer for Audile.
Meet Michael
Michael's time in the electronics industry began in 1987 as a through-hole PCB assembler, a role that provided him with foundational, hands-on experience in component assembly, soldering, and testing. He subsequently transitioned into various key functions within the same company, encompassing sales, marketing, purchasing, product design, and general management. This broad exposure equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the electronics sector's multifaceted operations.
Michael started Avant Technik in 2009. Based just outside of Brisbane, Avant Technik specializes in transforming customer concepts into tangible products. The company offers a complete end-to-end solution, handling circuit design, software development, enclosure design, and other associated engineering tasks. Avant Technik also manages the entire manufacturing process, including rigorous testing, quality assurance, and packaging, delivering a seamless transition from concept to market. Post-sales, Avant Technik is committed to customer satisfaction, providing robust warranties and exceptional support for product repairs.
Michael's long-standing professional relationship with Bruce, coupled with his personal love for playing bass and guitar, naturally led to discussions about collaborating on a line of effects pedals. These discussions culminated in the establishment of Audile.
